It’s My 4 Year Diaversary!

I cannot believe that it has been four whole years since I was rushed to the emergency room in Houston, Texas, and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Time really does fly.

So what have I learnt over the last four years?

Living with T1D is intense, it’s constant, and each day can be completely different. So, I’ve definitely been through it over the last four years, but I think I’m coming to grips with it (just about).

Resilience is definitely a big one! Living with T1D adds an extra layer of complexity to pretty much everything. But, it’s important to handle it as it happens, and to always come back stronger after any setback T1D may throw my way.

I am consistently grateful for the support network I have in my boyfriend, family, and friends. Knowing there are people I can turn to when sh*t hits the fan makes life so much easier. James is definitely a keeper, even if only for the annual balloon (jokes hehe).

I recommend celebrating each year as a milestone!

I have learnt to accept imperfection, as someone who is otherwise a bit of a perfectionist. No matter how hard I try, my blood sugar levels won’t play ball every single time. Even as I write this, sat on my sofa, my blood sugars are going up, despite my last meal being four hours ago. Sometimes there just isn’t a logical explanation for why these things happen, and that’s okay!

Overall, I have learnt to take each day as it comes, try not to procrastinate site changes of diabetes devices, and continue living my best life!

Thank you for reading, the best is yet to come!

Love, Lydia x
